What Is Coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses ranging from the common cold to much more serious diseases and can infect both humans and animals, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The new strain, first identified in Wuhan, China in January 2020, is related to two other coronaviruses that have caused outbreaks in recent years: Middle East respiratory syndrome, also known as MERS, and severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS.

Coronavirus Symptoms & Disease

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), patients with confirmed COVID-19 infections have reportedly had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of:

  • Fever

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath

Symptoms of the COVID-19 may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure. This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS viruses.

How Coronavirus Spreads

According to the CDC, human coronaviruses most commonly spread from an infected person to others through:

  • The air by coughing and sneezing

  • Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands

  • Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose or eyes before washing your hands

  • Rarely, fecal contamination

Coronavirus Infection Prevention and Treatment

Always consult your doctor for medical advice. There are currently no vaccines to protect you against human coronavirus infections, but the CDC suggests helping to reduce your risk of infection by doing the following:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Additionally, if you have cold-like symptoms, you can help protect others by doing the following:

  • Stay home while you are sick.

  • Avoid close contact with others.

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.

  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.

HMS Cleaning products meet or exceed the minimum disinfection requirements to help Prevent SARS-CoV-2 here is how?

The products listed below have demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to SARS-CoV-2 (formerly 2019-nCoV) on hard, nonporous surfaces. Therefore, per the EPA Emerging Pathogen Policy, these products can be used against SARS-CoV-2 when used as directed.

For more information, refer to the CDC website at
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/.

What HMS will do:

  • HMS Employees will adhere to the above standards and observe and report employees and visitors that display symptoms similar to the virus to our customers for immediate action.

  • HMS will implement total disinfection protocol which will require consistent disinfection of surfaces and contact points. If our daily instructions were to clean an area ONCE, with disinfection protocol they will be disinfected MULTIPLE times per day.

  • CONTACT POINT SHIFT OF FOCUS: The active protocol, focuses strictly on consumer contact surfaces and disinfection of the same ie. bathrooms, kitchens, counters, desks, etc... In addition to the observe and report clause. Meaning anyone that is sneezing or producing virus-like symptoms will be reported to us and our customers.

  • At Customer expense, HMS will procure all supplies necessary to carry out the scope of our plan.

  • The customer is required to approve expedite purchase orders or approve of supplies required. Alternatively, in a public health matter or declared a state of emergency HMS will purchase supplies at market price and the customer will reimburse HMS for the supplies without disputing the invoice.

  • Products: routinely, historically, and to limit liability, as a baseline of our operation, we only use known products from only national brands such as Lysol brand, CCS and HGD (Clorox commercial solutions, hospital grade disinfection) among others distributed by well-known sources like Staples, and Omni Dade.

Once declared a state of emergency, at customer expense, we will upgrade to high powered hospital-grade solutions not retail available and begin to roll out our procedures (based on product availability).

Please keep in mind, the virus is at an early stage, we will implement the requirements, it's just a matter of days. The important part is we have an outline of how to manage it and rest assured it will be completed.

What our customers should do

  • We recommend our customers approve emergency purchasing for products that help prevent the spread so that our staff can appropriately use them.

  • Provide contact person or liaison between HMS and customer HR department to manage incidents and suspected individuals.

  • Duplicate the above protocol: observe and report and manage areas of concern.

  • Ask QUESTIONS to customers and visitors -

  1. Where have you been?

  2. Whom have you been in contact with?

  3. Recent travels abroad?

  4. Has anyone you know and come in contact with recently made contact with someone else that has traveled abroad?

If YES to two or more of the above, we suggest employees work from home.

Remember: the disease relies on the health of our immune system. Our body can fight until it wears and symptoms start to prevail. Travel history and contact with foreign travelers is important.

Employee and management will report incidents via (customers will receive a copy of the incident report):

hmsprotection.com/incident

Disclaimer: If our customers fail to respond or address patrons that present symptoms, HMS will withdraw its own employees for employee safety and require the customer to allow an emergency response team to disinfect the entire venue at customer expense.
